On Tuesday 15 October 2019, Shlomo Organization for documentation in a collaboration with a general directorate of the Syriac Culture and American University in Sulaymaniyah held the lecture about the heritage and the historical site of Ashur, which is located in Sharaqat near to Mosul city under the topic (A culture against terrorism).
Attended by representatives of the cultural ministry in Baghdad and Kurdistan region and other personalities such as Mr.Methal- Al Alusi, and the ambassador of Palestine Mr. Nathmi Hazruri and Ms. Bakhshan Zangana the head of the supreme council of the women in Kurdistan region.
Shlomo facilitated the field works three months ago, of the researchers’ team, was headed by Dr. Tobin Hartnell the professor at American University in Sulaymaniyah and Archaeologist specialized.
Conducted in an aerial photo survey to show the huge devastation caused by terrorist operations of the so-called Islamic State. The work culminated effectively to highlight the site to inform those interested in the governments of Iraq, Kurdistan Region, the international community and our national community on the urgent needs of the site.
The seminar was co-moderated by Shlomo’s representative (Mr. Fares Jajo), Dr. Tobin the Archaeologist, and Dr. Abbas Abed the Director of Iraqi Museums at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and heritage in Baghdad Dr. Alan Mumtaz Nouri the Lecturer at the American University in Sulaymaniyah as an interpreter.
Statements were also made by the representative of the Minister of Culture in the Kurdistan region Mr. Nozad and Dr. Robin Bin Shmuel the representative of the general director of Syria culture heritage.
After that, Dr. Tobin presented his lecture and showed the pictures from his visit to the site and the local community who are surrounding the site. Then, he mentioned the most important characteristics of the Assyrian civilization, which he considers it the mother of Babylon civilization and also considered Assyria as the first city where the other gods were gathered to celebrate together with the god of Assyria.
Assyria also set up the administration so that it could develop the city, gardens, and sculptures. They were collecting the taxes and, distributing it to the artists and the workers in the city in order to clear and decorate it with sculptures.
He put forward his vision to develop the site by starting with the simplest things such as the Royal Garden and then Ziggurat and the royal cemetery and the famous Arthur Walther Archaeological Palace, which discovered the city of Assyria and map.
